385 marathons later
Averaging over a marathon a day for almost a year, a British man has run from L'Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, to Tunisia’s Mediterranean Coast. Russ Cook made his way through 16 countries, culminating in a voyage across the Sahara desert. The journey totalled 16,300 kilometres – the equivalent of Lisbon to Tallinn and back twice.
Cook claims to be the first person to run the length of Africa, although the World Runners Association disputes this. A staggering achievement regardless, Cook spoke iconically during the latter stages about his motivational fantasies: a strawberry daiquiri upon finishing and a sausage roll.
