Clearing the air
Twenty airlines are under investigation by the European Commission for potentially misleading environmental claims. Examples of these claims include using terms such as 'sustainable aviation fuels' without warranting its environmental impact or the use of 'green' and 'responsible' in an absolute way.
The airlines have 30 days to address whether these claims can be supported by solid scientific evidence. The Commission will then discuss the proposed solutions and monitor the implementation of agreed-upon changes. Combatting 'greenwashing' to safeguard consumers is a key component of <a href=”https://www.europeancorrespondent.com/article?s=Whos-afraid-of-the-Green-Deal” style=”text-decoration: underline !important;”>the EU's Green Deal.
