FBI returns stolen artwork to Luxembourg

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) wants to repatriate stolen art to Luxembourg. The artwork was allegedly stolen from a Luxembourg museum during World War II. The FBI’s Art Crime Team has issued a call for assistance to the Luxembourg residents trying to find the owner of the painting. The seascape by Belgian artist Jacob Jacobs was recently rediscovered in the US.

The FBI’s Art Crime Team has recovered over 20.000 artworks in the past 20 years. Many of them went missing during WWII. In October, the agents handed over a piece by 18th-century Austrian artist Johann Franz Nepomuk Lauterer to a German museum.
