Following the announcement of the European Public Prosecutor's Office in Zagreb, Croatian health minister, Vili Beroš, was sacked from his position, and detained. Beroš and seven other individuals are accused of having abused their position in office, and now face charges of corruption and bribery. They are suspected of offering bribes to officials to win contracts, including those funded by the European Union.

Cameron MacBride The scandal involving Croatia's former health minister Vili Beroš goes beyond corruption charges. Reports claim that expensive medical equipment, bought at inflated prices, ended up unused and stored under blankets in hospital storerooms. Welcome to The European Correspondent
Europe lacks true European media: in Germany alone, there are more media devoted exclusively to football than news outlets specialising on Europe. The established players mainly focus on Brussels and European institutions. The European Correspondent aims to change that. We cover the whole of Europe and write for a community of citizens who want to look beyond their own national borders. Without European journalism, there is no European civil society.
